Music and Music Education

The Bachelor of Music program is a three-year specialist music degree which enables students to develop their musicianship and their musical skills. Students undertake studies in musicology and ethnomusicolgy - including music history, style, musical perception and analysis, music in its cultural contexts - and musical technology, performance, jazz studies and composition. At the same time, students have enough fl exibility in their program to enable them to combine music studies with work in a related discipline such as theatre, languages, english or history. Consistently good results in the BMus may lead to a fourth (honours) year of study.

Music at UNSW

The Music program at UNSW incorporates diverse approaches to the study of the musical traditions of both western and non-western societies. Performance can be experienced through an orchestra, wind ensemble, jazz ensembles, chamber groups, choir or vocal consort. Solo performance can be a major component of the BMus, BMus/BA, and BMus/BEd and BMus/BSci programs, with both private lessons and specialised workshops. Music technology is one of the course highlights. UNSW has a sophisticated music laboratory composed of a vast supply of digital resources aiding students in their composition and musicianship studies. Students have the option of combining music with studies in a related discipline, such as Theatre and Performance Studies, Film Studies, Languages, English, History, Philosophy or Sociology and Anthropology.
