Burgundian Consort

The Burgundian Consort is a small vocal ensemble directed by Sonia Maddock. Interested singers are auditioned early in the year. Members need good sight-singing skills. The Consort has a very exciting and wide ranging repertoire and performs in public, at, for example, the Collegium Musicum's Christmas concert each year. Handbell Ensemble

The school owns a beautiful set of handbells and students are welcome to experience the very particular musical skills needed and delightful sounds produced by the ensemble. The ensemble plays at the Collegium Musicum's Christmas concert each year.

Jazz Fundamentals

The Jazz Fundamentals group is a teaching ensemble. Students will be introduced to the principles, styles, genres, and performance practices of jazz.

New and Traditional Music Group

This group mainly rehearses and performs repertoire composed after WWII. Emphasis is on vocal works but some instrumental works will be performed. Some experimentation and theatrics may be involved.
Orchestra

The UNSW Orchestra (UNSWO) was founded in 1989 and is open to UNSW students, staff and alumni with the necessary instrumental performance standards. Wind and percussion places are auditioned on Tuesday, Week 1 of Semester 1 meeting at 6.30pm. UNSWO gives several public concerts each year. UNSWO is jointly administered by the SOAP and the School of Music and Music Education.
Gypsy Jazz Group (Must be able to play chords, scales, arpeggios, etc)

The Gypsy jazz group is directed by Iain Giblin and is built around the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli. Gypsy jazz combines Eastern European folk traditions with the blues-based swing of early jazz to create a lively, harmonically rich music. The main instruments are guitar, violin, bass, clarinet, and accordion; however other instruments are welcome. Students need not be skilled improvisers and beginners in improvisation will be shown the techniques needed to improvise in this genre.
